Why hire a birth Doula?

First we need to get this out of the way. What the heck is a birth doula?

We are there to support the birthing person through planning and preparing what you want your birth to be. There is no guarantee that your birth will go exactly as planned, and that is yet another reason to have a doula.

We are there to provide you with education of things to expect before, during, and after labour and delivery. We can aid the communication between you and your health care provider and ensure you are given informed consent to what happens with your body through evidence based information.

We are there to provide you with companionship, we listen and respect your feelings and emotions with no judgement.

Chantelle is an incredibly compassionate and knowledgeable professional who we were so thankful to have on our birth team. She always came fully prepared with information and suggestions to prenatal meetings, and her postpartum visits were also incredibly comforting, with ongoing care if necessary. She always asked if there was something in particular we wanted more information on or support with, which really customized her care to our family, and her warm and friendly personality made the time we all spent together so natural. However, where Chantelle’s services were invaluable was during our labour and birth process - we couldn’t have done it without her helping hands and support. She helped work through contractions, provided relief support for my husband, came prepared with nutritious snacks, worked with our midwives during delivery and even comforted our dog before we moved to our birth centre. She truly is an incredible resource to have for your whole pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone. We are so grateful to have had her with us on this parenting journey so far. -Tessa, Dave, pup Ivy, and baby Sylvie

We had Chantelle in our home for care after the arrival of our second baby, and it was one of the best decisions we could have made. Not only does she have immense knowledge that comes from her training and almost two decades of childcare experience, but she brings the most positive, nurturing attitude as well. She has a gentle way of educating new parents in such a way that you feel as if you had the answers all along. It is truly empowering.
